Swapping like for like is allowed for a competent person in England, but you must isolate the circuit and connect the earth properly. New lighting points, new circuits and work in bathrooms are best left to an electrician who can test and certify it.
How many downlights do I need?
It depends on the room size, ceiling height and the fitting's beam. Harry suggests a layout from photos and measurements.
Why do my LED lights flicker?
Often the dimmer switch does not suit LED bulbs. Fitting an LED-rated dimmer usually sorts it.
Can you fit lights I have bought myself?
Yes, as long as they are suitable for where they are going. Send Harry the link or the box and he will check.
Do I need fire-rated downlights?
Where a ceiling forms a fire barrier, such as under a bedroom or loft, fire-rated downlights keep that protection. Harry tells you where they are needed.
