How it works
Nothing hidden in the maths
Four things set the price of a home charger. This is how each one is worked out.
- The chargersupplied and fitted
Untethered from £850, smart untethered or tethered from £950. All are 7kW home chargers.
- Cable runby distance
Up to 10 metres is included. Longer runs add a set amount for the extra cable and fixings.
- Routegarage or outbuilding
A detached garage needs armoured cable, often in the ground, so it is checked on the visit.
- Fuse boardonly if needed
A modern board with a spare way is usually fine. An old fuse box may need replacing first, priced as a fuse board job.
After the visit
What the visit checks
Before any charger goes on the wall, Harry checks the things that decide whether your house can take one safely.

WhatsApp HarryHow much does it cost to install an EV charger at home?
The guide price starts at £850 for an untethered charger, supplied and fitted, with a cable run up to 10 metres. Smart and tethered chargers cost more. Use the tool above to see your price.
How long does it take to install an EV charger?
Most home installs are done in around half a day. Longer cable runs or a fuse board upgrade take longer.
Can I get a grant for an EV charger?
The government grant now covers renters, flat owners and landlords rather than most homeowners, and it has to be claimed through an OZEV approved installer. Harry is not OZEV approved at the moment, so his prices do not include a grant. Check the current rules on gov.uk.
Do I need planning permission for an EV charger?
Usually not for a wall charger at a house with off-street parking, but listed buildings and some flats are different. Check with Liverpool City Council if you are unsure.
