Who it is for
Faults Harry gets called out for
If one of these sounds like your house, send Harry a message.
RCD keeps tripping
The whole downstairs going off, sometimes at random, sometimes when it rains.
Lights flickering
One light flickering is usually the bulb or fitting. Lots of lights flickering can be a loose connection that needs finding.
A dead socket
A socket or a run of sockets that has stopped working, often after a bang or a burning smell.
Tripping when it rains
Water in an outdoor socket, light or junction box is one of the most common causes Harry finds.
A breaker that will not reset
If it trips straight back off with everything unplugged, the fault is in the wiring.
A buzzing switch or warm socket
Signs of a loose or overheating connection. Stop using it until it is checked.

Questions
Questions about
repairs
Not sure what you need? Send Harry a photo and he will tell you.
WhatsApp HarryWhy does my fuse box keep tripping?
The usual causes are a faulty appliance, water in an outdoor socket or light, or a damaged cable. Unplug everything on that circuit and reset the switch. If it stays on, plug things back one at a time to find the culprit. If it trips with nothing plugged in, the fault is in the wiring.
Why does my RCD keep tripping?
An RCD trips when it detects electricity leaking to earth. Common causes are a faulty kettle, washing machine or immersion heater, and damp getting into outdoor fittings. If it keeps happening, get it tested rather than taping the switch up.
Why are my lights flickering?
One flickering light is often the bulb, a dimmer that does not suit LED bulbs, or the fitting. Several lights flickering together can mean a loose connection somewhere on the circuit, which should be checked.
How much does an electrician charge?
It depends on the job. Harry does not charge by guesswork: send him a photo and a description and he will tell you what he thinks it is and what it will cost before he comes out.
What should I do if there is no power in the house?
Check whether your neighbours have power. If they do not, it is a power cut: ring 105 to report it. If they do, look at your fuse board. If a switch has tripped, try resetting it. If it will not stay on, ring or WhatsApp Harry.
