A fuse board swap is mostly the same job on every house. These are the parts that change the price.

The new boardby home size
From £600 for a flat or 1 to 2 bed house, £650 for 3 bed, £800 for 4 bed or bigger. Bigger homes have more circuits, so more RCBOs.
Testing and certificateincluded
Every circuit tested before the power goes back on, and Building Regs notified through NAPIT.
Moving the boardconfirmed on the visit
Every circuit has to be extended to the new spot.
Extra circuitsper circuit
An electric shower needs its own circuit. A way can be left ready for an EV charger.

Faults found on old circuits during testing can add time. Anything extra is agreed with you first.

Testing the old circuits is where surprises show up. If anything needs fixing before the new board can go live, you hear about it first.

About fuse board replacement

Earthing and bonding: Gas and water bonding brought up to date if missing
Faulty circuits: A circuit that fails testing is fixed or made safe
Meter tails: Old or undersized tails may need replacing
Access: A board in a cupboard or under the stairs is fine

They are the same thing. "Fuse box" usually means an old board with wire fuses; a consumer unit is the modern version with switches.

Do I need a new fuse board for an EV charger?

Not always. A modern board with a spare way and RCD protection is often fine. Harry checks it before quoting.
